    It is really tempting, especially for students, to eat in a fast-food restaurant. I mean when you are not at home, you have no access to all those home-cooked meals and so you have no choice but to eat in fast-food restaurants. I have college friends who live on their own and they are complaining how sick they are with the food they eat. But how can we really avoid these unhealthy yet very enticing foods?

    Eating before you leave your house especially if you know that you won’t be out very long will not make you go wild about their menu. Be sure to only eat the right stuff and eat only enough to make you sway away from fast-food. Have a mindset that these foods are bad for your health. Think of the worst things that can happen to you if you continue to munch on these unhealthy stuffs. Set your minds to relate anything fast food has to offer with negative side effects. Or, if you are conscious of your body, just remember that unhealthy foods as such put the pounds quickly thus you will gain weight more easily. Also, think of how they prepare these “fast” foods and how sloppily they are prepared. Would you still crave for them? I think not.

    Discipline is the key. It just takes will power to these. Just to repeat to yourself over and over again that you do not have to eat these foods. You have you trust yourself that you can do it. It is just like quitting smoking. There may be some sort of withdrawal symptoms (especially if you are really addicted to eating fast foods!) but you can and must do it if you want to live a healthy lifestyle. Just imagine the benefits of this withdrawal and you will soon surely forget this in an instant.

    Keep your fridge full of healthy foods. When you go shopping for your groceries, only choose those which are nutritious. You may include meat but keep them in moderate amounts. Also don’t neglect stuffs that appeal to you. It may be good to reward yourself sometimes. And speaking of rewards, you may treat yourself to a movie or a piece of candy. This does not aim to tempt you even more but just to reward you from having to endure the pain of not being able to eat want you want. Do not do this very often or you will find yourself right at the beginning.

    Keep yourself busy. Focus yourself in some other things. It can be on your work, on your studies. Believe me, this is effective even to those who want to lose a couple of pounds. If you enjoy something, time would fly by really quickly that you would forget all these fast foods. Pack snacks with you when you go out. That way if you feel a sudden impulse to eat, you wouldn’t have to stop at a drive-thru. You may also consider learning how to cook. Some cooks are just satisfied with the whole cooking process but they never really eat their food. Maybe this might work for you. Or if it doesn’t and you are really hungry, you can use your cooking skills to prepare foods that are, again, healthy.

    Regardless of whether it is tacos, burgers, or fried chicken; we love it just the same. Fast food has become a way of life for many people. They eat it three times a day. They’d rather have a Big Mac than a steak. But eating at a fast food chain doesn’t have to be bad for your health.

    I’m not going to try and tell you that fast food fare is the healthiest food on the planet, but it can be pretty healthy if you make the right food choices.

    If you order a burger, get it without the mayo and cheese. By doing this, you can reduce the amount of fat in your meal. If you feel that the sandwich is too dry without mayo, use mustard or ketchup instead. 

    The processed cheese that many fast food franchises use is loaded with oil and other junk. You might think that cheese is made from milk, but not all of it is. Some of it is made from cooking oil and is less healthy than the milk based kind.

    Avoid anything with bacon on it. You can save a substantial number of calories this way.  

    It is also a good idea to stay away from items that are deep fried. This includes french fries, fried fish, and fried chicken. The oil they use for frying is not the healthiest and can add a ton of fat and worthless calories to your meal.

    Most fast food franchises offer salads today. Consider substituting a side salad for the french fries. French fries are okay if you eat them on an occasional basis, but if you make a habit of eating them regularly, you should consider the salad substitute.

    Subway promotes their food as being healthier than the typical fast food fare. And if you look at their menu, you can find some healthy alternatives. The fat content and calories for each item is listed in their menu. This is nice if you are watching what you eat.

    What image does it conjure up in your mind when you think of salads?

    Diets? Deprivation? Boring lettuce leaves again? Well, you’ll be pleased to know that it doesn’t have to be like that. Salads can help you lose weight in multiple ways? Think of salads of your best dieting buddies!

    Salads eaten with every meal will increase your metabolic rate. This in turn will help you burn fat fast! But, you’ll be pleased to learn that there is another way in which salads can help you with weight loss, something you might not be aware of! Eating junk foods alone is not okay, but if you eat salads with junk foods, you will be able to offset any further weight gain!

    You have probably tried almost all the available fad diet plans out there and still failed miserably and are beginning to wonder how salads can help you so much.

    Junk foods are rich in acids and quite often contain a high percentage of salt. Your body binds these acids inside your body, neutralizes them and stores them as fat deposits inside your body!

    Green vegetables such as salads contain a lot of alkaline which is the worst enemy of acids. When you eat foods that contain alkaline you help to cleanse your body of all the toxins that you have in the form of fat deposits. In this way you will see that you are able to shed all the extra pounds very quickly! The more green and leafy vegetables you eat, the faster you will lose weight!

    Therefore it is important to always include plenty of salad with your meal when eating junk food and you will be helping yourself to prevent gaining any more weight!

    That is not to say that you can eat as much junk food as you like, with salads, and not gain weight. What you can do is to choose healthier options. A filet-of-fish has fewer calories than a double cheeseburger; a diet coke is healthier than a regular coke. Fast food restaurants are starting to display the number of calories in each of their foods. So it is better to choose something that has fewer calories so you don’t feel as if you are depriving yourself.

    Don’t forget to include as much side salad as you can but without a high calorie dressing on it.

    If you seriously want to lose weight then junk foods should be restricted. Plan your meals so you are eating a healthy well-balanced diet then you can ‘treat’ yourself every so often to a fast food meal.

    Doing it this way will help you to lose weight very quickly! Remember that the faster you lose weight, the sooner you can get the slim body you have always dreamed about!
