    There are some basic cooking tips that anyone could learn and use to help out in the kitchen. With today’s busy lifestyles becoming more prevalent, learning and using these basic cooking tips will save you time and headache.

    • Bacon: Reduce shrinkage by running cold water over it before frying.

    • Beans: Stop gas attacks by adding a tablespoon of bicarbonate of soda in a big pot of beans while they are soaking.

    • Boiled Eggs: Add some vinegar or a little salt to the boiling water when boiling eggs. This basic cooking tips will keep the egg in the shell if it cracks.

    • Ripening Fruits and Vegetables: Put your unripe fruit and vegetables in a brown paper bag and place the bag in a dark cupboard for few day. Using this basic cooking tips is an excellent way to save money on fruits and vegetables that has to be ripened.

    • Salads: Cut your iceberg lettuce into wedges instead of tearing salad greens to save some time making a salad.

    • Spaghetti Sauce: Add a small pinch of bicarbonate of soda to your spaghetti sauce to lower the acid taste from the tomatoes.

    • Corn: Place the corn directly into boiling water, and do not add salt. Do not boil corn for more than three minutes. Overcooking reduces the taste level.

    • Frozen Vegetables: When they are stuck together, simply run boiling water over them.

    • Grating Cheese: Freeze for twenty five minutes before grating. It will shred so much easier.

    • Pancakes: Use a small amount of sugar in the batter and they will brown more quickly.

    • Pie Pastry: Substitute one teaspoon of vinegar for one teaspoon of the cold water called for in the recipe and the pastry will be much flakier.

    • Quick Sauces: Use condensed cream soups such as cream of mushroom, cream of chicken, cream of tomato, cream of celery, to make fast and easy sauces.

    • Quick Tenderizer: Use vinegar as a meat tenderizer. Add a tablespoon to water when boiling meat or ribs for stews. This basic cooking tips will help tenderizer even the toughest meat.

    • Wilted vegetables: Soak wilted veggies in two cups water, one tablespoon vinegar to help bring them back to life.

    • Wooden Skewers: Soak all your wooden skewers in cold water for twenty minutes to prevent them from burning.

    Have you ever thought about it? All of those companies that make low fat or fat free foods claim that their products help people lose weight. Here’s the thing though: Americans eat the most low fat and fat free foods, but somehow we have the highest rate of obesity in the world! That just doesn’t make sense!

    Well, actually, it does make sense. Think about things in perspective in terms of time. People of all generations before us were not struggling as much as we are today with weight. What was it that was different? Well, they certainly didn’t have low fat or fat free foods so if they didn’t have those foods to “help” them, what was it? There’s the key! They didn’t have low fat or fat free foods! That’s why they were not struggling with their weight!!

    Low fat and fat free foods do NOT help you to lose weight! Plain and simple, that is the full truth and I know you can handle it! Okay, so here’s how low fat and fat free foods make you fat…

    First off, foods with fat tend to taste better than their low fat or fat free buddies. I know, it’s not something that you’re likely to admit since, I’m sure, you’re trying to keep those types of foods out of your mind while you work hard to lose weight. But realize that usually it is the fat in foods that make things taste so great. So when companies reduce or take out the fat, the taste goes with it.

    Just think about the difference between a yummy cracker topped with cheese and a low fat cracker all dry and bland. Which one would YOU choose? The tasty one of course! So basically, you’re subjecting yourself to bland, tasteless, dry food that, get this, costs more! That just completely does not make sense! Anyways, the fact that companies take out the taste means that they need to make their products taste good some other way. You know what that means! Chemical galore!

    Low fat and fat free foods contain so many extra fillers that it is honestly scary! You’ve got tons of salt and tons of sugar, way more than is healthy and you’ve also got odd bulking agents, flavor enhancers and even artificial flavoring. Clearly this can’t be good. However, in a way, it does the trick to making low fat and fat free foods more tasty.

    Secondly, now that companies have been successful in making low fat and fat free foods tasty, people tend to think that since they taste good AND are low fat, then it’s okay to eat even more of these foods than regular full fat foods. This is actually very bad! It’s bad because if you eat more, you end up eating tons more of the chemicals they pump into these foods! And those chemicals are bad for your body, hands down, without any questions.

    Statistically speaking, when you eat low fat or fat free foods, typically everyone will end up eating 28% more calories than regular full fat foods! Can you believe that? So by eating more of these low fat or fat free foods that are artificially tasty, you’re actually eating more calories than you should be, than you would be if you were eating full fat foods! Wow.

    Now, that doesn’t mean that if you just eat less of the low fat or fat free foods, then these will be healthy for you because they really aren’t, period. That also doesn’t mean that you’re free to eat fatty, greasy foods either because fried foods are never good for you. What you should be eating though, in terms of fat, are foods that are high in good fats. These include olive oil, avocadoes, nuts, seeds and oily fish, like salmon and tuna.

    Going the easy route with low fat or fat free foods, letting companies do the “extra legwork” for you, is just a bad idea. Success weight loss begins with making good health choices and sometimes it may mean making a healthy lifestyle change. But the key is to keep all of your health decisions in your hands. So keep learning about foods and make sure to keep your health in your focus and you’ll quickly be able to lose weight successfully!

    In many family budgets, one of the biggest food expenses is often meat.So in theory at least becoming a vegetarian should be an outstanding financial maneuver. In theory, if all you ate was rice and vegetables, you should be able to live for very little.

    But theory and reality are often far apart from each other.Because the culture of vegetarian living has developed so many high quality foods to fill the gap left behind by a good steak or a plate of barbeque ribs, you can spend as much or more on your vegetarian lifestyle as you did when you were a meat eater.The high cost of living as a vegetarian is not entire attributable to gourmet foods however.

    The truth is if you are going to live in day in day out and month in month out on a vegetarian diet, not only do you need some high quality foods to substitute for taking a whole food group out of your diet, you need variety.The quality is needed because its your health on the line if you don’t get the proper nutrients.The diversity is needed because if you get bored with the vegetarian lifestyle, you may quit and give up. And nobody wants that.

    Another reason that the cost of vegetarian eating is often higher than a “normal” diet comes from the fact that vegetarians are still in the minority.So prepared vegetarian foods and vegetarian only restaurants are rare.And to be able to make a profit, these specialty stores must charge a lot because they are specialty stores.Unfortunately, even though we see the vegetarian community as a supportive one, if you are going to be able to afford the vegetarian lifestyle, you are going to have to learn to cut costs.

    Cutting costs means eliminating shopping at “boutique” vegetarian markets and no more eating out. Or at least it means cutting down on the eating out significantly.You can buy fresh vegetables and fruits at farmers markets or grocery stores that are just as valid as vegetarian options as any you get as a specialty store.Using a good food processor and other means, you can chop, dice, boil and puree just about any kind of vegetarian meal that you might be able to imagine getting in a restaurant. And at a much lower cost.Not only that but the leftovers can go into a compost pile to make fertilizer for your garden when you can grow your own vegetables next spring.

    That “grower to consumer” market that often surfaces as a farmer’s market is a great way to save lots of money also because you are buying your produce directly from the farmer and you cut the grocery store out of the loop entirely.One way to make sure you capitalize on every opportunity to buy inexpensive produce is to work as a community.Get about a dozen vegetarian families working together to always be on the lookout for a great buy.One might find a small farmer’s market or roadside stand that is selling produce far below grocery store prices.Another might find a farmer who will basically give his food away just to clear the field. With some coordination, you could field an army of vegetarians to grab those bargains while they are fresh and stock everybody’s kitchen with low cost fresh produce.

    These are just a few of many ways you can find to save money on your vegetarian groceries and still have just as much quality but without as much cost.By shopping smart and shopping for bargains, you can live the vegetarian life and feel good about it because you are not only healthy, you are smart.
